Album Cover

I wanted to have a go at creating an album cover because it is something I’m interested in.

I had to create a mockup of my vinyl cover design.

Week5

This week I am making a show reel of my work so far this year

I like this show reel as an example:

I began and ended with the same coloured screen with my name and Uni number at the start and a moving credits including the names of the work included at the end.

I used snippets of my work and edited and moved them all so they fit better together, I also added a soundtrack to it.

Week6

I created a short 30 second self portrait video in After effects, using techniques that I love and tend to use in other sections of my work.

I made sure I added some black and white grainy photography with jagged cut out edges to add some texture and more depth.

For this project we had to create a 3D character that moves. The plan was to create a moving character in cinema 4D.

Week 1

Our character had to be based around a favourite fizzy drink. For mine I picked Mountain Dew and tried to create a character which I think could be related to the drink brand.

I thought about the logo and the artwork surrounding the brand. I came to the conclusion that everything has sharp edges and there are a lot of triangles involved. I also had to

After a few drawings this was my conclusion. Once I came up with the idea of a pyramid, I wanted to find a way to add the main lettering and more colour to it. So I decided on the cool looking tattoos on the triangle. I also wanted its personality to seem sharp and daring, so I gave it pointy eyes.

Once I created it in illustrator I had to make sure all the components were separate so I could edit them all to the standard I wanted in 4D. I also had to make sure I saved it as an illustrator 8 file so it could correspond with 4D.

Week 2

Once I had imported my illustrator file into Cinema 4D I began by making it all 3D by adding an extrude directly underneath each layer I had made in illustrator.

After this I then added colour by creating a ‘new material’ under ‘create’ in the bottom panel. I picked a colour for my material and then dragged it onto the shape which I wanted to colour.

From this I tried to create the pyramid shape which I was wanting to achieve by using the ‘Boole’ tool under ‘Subdivision Surface’.

Week 3

I found cinema 4D pretty hard at this point as it kept making my laptop crash the more I did with it so I decided to make something in After Effects.

I simply made it look as though my character is flying around the Mountain Dew logo. I made it so the character moved around fast and constant and that the corners are cut sharp to suggest that the shape has a lot of excited energy like how the drink can make you feel.

I also made a last minute quick mock up of another way I could potentially create my character. Use a pre-made pyramid and add eyes by drawing them with the ‘Spline’ tool which is under the ‘Spline Pen’ and then using a ‘Loft’ which is under ‘Extrude’. I also added two little pyramid legs to my character.

I would then go on to find out if I could add the tattoos to the face of my pyramid.

In this week I had to create an infographic relating to health. I decided on trying to represent the data of covid cases in the UK from September 2020 – March 2021.

I created an illustrator file with everything I wanted to move separately on separate layers within illustrator. Then I imported the file into an after effects composition of 1920 x 1080 with 10 seconds and from there I changed the time length of each layer to make it work in the sequence I was wanting.

I made a pre-comp from the the word data and the transitioning circles that move in sequences so it made it easier for me to move things around them.

To show the changes in the data from the UK in the form of colours I simply layered them on top of each other and faded them in and out of each other.

I did a advert for a social media platform on a book called Life Isn’t All Ha Ha Hee Hee by Meera Syal.

It has quotes and reviews within the video and it represents themes within the book itself.

For this one I had to create a title sequence for a book I have read. The book I chose is called, Where The Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens. I want to make sure I incorporate these colours, as I especially like the sunset. I will also incorporate the boat and a few pieces from the book itself, including a quote.

A good example of a title sequence would be:

In my title sequence I used CC page turn, texture and a few other transformations in a clever way.

In this project I had to create a scene in which things were revealed in a page-turn motion. I also had to make sure I added texture.

An example of this would be the music video for MGMT, All We Ever Wanted Was Everything:

On my frames I gave them an Effect called CC page turn which can be found under Effects > Distort > CC page turn

Once CC page turn has been clicked it can be edited to how you’d like it, such as the fold position and the direction the fold comes from. To create a swift movement of the page turn you have to click the timer button next to the fold position control at the starting point you choose and then move the time indicator to where you want the movement to end and then drag the fold position bar until you complete the full page turn.

For this one I had to hand draw separate stills, to create a stop motion animation. I used procreate to draw stills of a a caterpillar moving across the screen.

A good example of stop motion drawing designs is this:

I drew each frame out each relating closely to the last one so the movement is more fluid and not too blocky. I made a composition on After Effects of 1920w x 1080h and 10 seconds long. Then I put all the frames into After Effects and positioned them in the right place to follow on, one from another. I made all of the frames 01f long to make the transitions between the frames even more fluid.

I also created a psychedelic dynamic background to make it more interesting. I made a rotoscope from the background around the shape of the caterpillar and changed the mode to exclusion to make it stand out from the background.

attach hair to a plane to start off with and set the hair gravity to 400 to make it fall upwards
add sound from the MoGraph and put in an audio track from what we’ve been using
add wind to effect the hair movement depending on how the music moves
The sound is attached to an xpresso tag and the sound and wind are connected through the sample and range mapper. The range mapper’s output upper is set to 1500 due to the wind not doing much without it being a high volume
