Ideas for anti beer, adverts to inspire me

Printed Goods is a collaborative creative project which prints their designs into posters, T-shirts, postcards and classic wall prints, with the belief that art can – and should – enrich everyday experiences. They create art on classical mythology, symbolism and archetypes to create contemporary pieces that echo the past. They have collaborated with a number of brands including Dr Martens, Peroni, Earl of East London and Mr Porter and their designs have been featured in a variety of publications, from The New Yorker to FT Magazine.
I love the colours and style of these prints, they have a dream-like quality to them with its psychadelic patterns, bright but soft colours and the unrealistic feel in each print.

I think it would be a good idea to send a vinyl with my details and brand name out to companies. I love music and vinyls are classic and are becoming trendier, the kind of people who I think would own a record player are the kind of people who i would want to be appealing to, older and more established brands, people who love music and appreciate the history of it, bands and also young hipster brands. I would buy loads of 7″ single record vinyls from charity shops and print off my own center sticker to place on it, I would also design and print my own foil and vinyl sleeve. The music will be random and a surprise to people when they play it. The idea to use old, pre-loved vinyls will be cheaper, better for the environment and it also could add some nostalgia and culture to the brand.

When considering using Tpography in any piece of work you need to take these specific things into account, weight, uppercase/lowercase, spacing and size. You would choose them on how you want the viewer to see your work and what you want them to feel.
‘Design is thinking made visible’ -Saul Bass, he was the man who forever changed the moving titles sequences for films
The Psycho title sequence involves deconstructed type which became a very big thing in the 70s which was challenged by Cranbrook School of Art under the direction of Professors Michael and Katherine McCoy. They designed a special issue of Visible Language on contemporary French literary aesthetics, published in the summer of 1978. The students were asked to develop their strategy: to systematically disintegrate the the series of essays by expanding the spaces between lines and words and pushing the footnotes into the space normally reserved for the main text.
Deconstructed type doesn’t always have to be readable or understandable, it can also be used to create a new texture or an abstract piece of art

He started dong a project to inspire and stretch his creativity. He painted, drew pictures around things he found or everyday things to create something new. This really challenged him as he had to think more outside the box and make the object which he already knew and already had ideas around and make it into something else.

“For things to get done you need to sit and think and doodle, something may happen, or something might not , but trying is good enough” -Chritoph Niemann
He says that a gate way drug is to not always create art, but to experince art.

Constantly try to reinvent from the things around you.
It is the study of signs and symbols and their use or interpretation and how we make meaning from the visual world.
Some examples of signs are: gestural, written, audio, symbols and codes, these work to make a meaning and they also represent ideas and create meanings using a range of ways. Context also changes the way we see these symbols and signs.

How do we make sense of the world through words, images, experience and interpretation? Things are learnt subconciously which effects the way we interpret things.

Languages are part of the structure we use to communicate. Is there any ideas in the mind until language is there?
Meaning varies between different individuals

The Ban The Bomb logo 1959
It is also known as the peace sign and it was made following the second world war. It was originally made in ceramic so if there was a bombing then they would survive and be left behind.

Semiotics relies on our understanding of the visual world
Rene Magritte 1929

The act of editing and adding more or replacing with other elements. Taking data, cutting it, moving it around, reshaping it to make another finished piece
Examples of post production are: a sequal, reinterpretation or the movement in work
Pop culture is a prime example of post production because it takes normal things from everyday life and makes it look glamorous, it also goes on to challenge what art really means and what people clss as ‘art’.

A good point of advertising is borrowing from other, past works, this can put a view on , political commentary and critique. They could also be used in a way that they can create senses of humour, nostalgia. Nostalgia creates an emotional connection, people think back to their past lives and simpler time. people tend to have rose tinted glasses on the past and the bad is filtered out, this therefore creates a positive feelings towards the advert.
‘Bricolage’ is the construction or creation from a diverse range of avaliable thhings that doesnt really have a clear end or goal in mind. It comes from the French word ‘bricolar’ which means to tinker or do it yourself and that leads on to the improvisation in a human endeavor.
‘Intertexuality’ is the relationship between two things making it more understandable. Examples of intertexuality

These adverts use things around them which people know, then they use other imagery which are also well known to make a link between the two things and create the message they are trying to portray.
Dirty Hit

clean and simple san serif logo, looks professional and current

Very uniform and organised way of showing the work with all descriptions obviously seen underneath each item

Columbia

When you enter the website it has a short motion graphic introducing the logo and the name of the company before it shows the website as a whole, I like this idea

The logo has a serif font which to me adds a bit of history and legacy to the brand showing its been around for quite a few years. The vector logo gives me a very 80s vibe.

only using red white and black for their identity, they keep it simple for the artists they’re promoting to contrast and show through their branding. They let their work be the most important thing.

Everything can be found in the side bar, easy to understand and navigate yourself around the website
Rough Trade

The font is very much representing the title with its rough edges and the lack of uniform lettering

Vocabulary:
Terry Eagleton said ‘There is no reading of a work which is also a re-writing’ this means that everything can always be interpreted differently by the reader.
Visual communication is exploring the idea that a visual message, with or without accompanying audio or text, has the power to inform, educate, or persuade a viewer. It’s the conveyance of ideas and information in forms that can be read or viewed.
Anthony Burrill (2002)

International Yves Klein Blue (1947)

‘An idea that is not dangerous, is unworthy of being called an idea’ = BE AMBITIOUS

50s advertisement- make the product look nice, artists spend time doing realistic paintings and drawings of product, but nothing in your face because there was only one go to brand for a product. These days products have to compete for popularity because there are so many different brands for the same product, they do this through good packaging and clever advertisements.
In commercial and conceptual design- Experimental JetSet – Tshirtism (2001)

Design as a reflection of its moment on societal or individual level.
Design is a reaction of whats happening around it.
This idea relates to the brief because it’s something which represents humans and all living things on this earth, it runs through us all, it makes us who we are, literally. It carries on through your family even when you are long gone
Complex molecule which contains all information necessary to build and maintain an organism. All living things have DNA within their cells
Idea: a long line of DNA representing it going down your family line through time (start off in black & white to show a long time ago by relating to old films only bing in B&W, then start adding faded colour, then primary colours and finally full colour.)

Idea 1: do a graph involving all of these lines of closeness overlapping each other and colour coded. represents how the majority of peoples lives are spent in various relationships.
Life Lines- lines of closeness to a basic group of people in the majority of peoples lives

Idea 2- heart
Heart rates and the heart, the main feature of the body.

Most of us also listen to music in order to experience emotions. … Perhaps the primary reason for music listening is the power that music has in stirring our emotions. Music has been reported to evoke the full range of human emotion: from sad, nostalgic, and tense, to happy, relaxed, calm, and joyous.
Because emotions enhance memory processes and music evokes strong emotions, music could be involved in forming memories, either about pieces of music or about episodes and information associated with particular music. A recent study in BMC Neuroscience has given new insights into the role of emotion in musical memory.
